| Scania Capitalizes on Booming Russian Heavy Truck Market |

The Russian heavy truck market is on the rise. Imports of western European makes increased by 115 percent during 2007. A total of 19,464 new trucks were imported, compared to 9,072 in 2006. Recently, the Russia grocery chain X5 Retail Group has ordered 146 temperature-controlled Scania distribution trucks for supplying goods to its nationwide stores and supermarkets. Last year Scania delivered 144 trucks to the group. Today Scania has nearly 30 service workshops in Russia and plans to continue its expansion in the country. During 2008, an additional six to eight new service workshops will be established. Scania Russia will also establish regional warehouses in order to provide high availability of parts to all its customers in the country. Scania is an IRTA Member with company headquarters in Sweden. Meanwhile, New York apples have found a new export destination in Russia, which has become the largest apple importing country in the world. To date this year, New York apple growers have shipped more than 10,000 cartons of local apples to Russia. It is the first time in history that apples from New York have been sent to the country on a commercial scale. See full release. |

| FreshPlaza profiled Safmarine, part of the AP Moller-Maersk Group. Safmarine has become a leading fruit exporter in the Southern Hemisphere. Overall, fruits and vegetables represent about 50 % of total refrigerated goods carried by Safmarine. From South Africa itself, fruit and vegetables account for more than three quarters of all refrigerated cargo shipped. See full story. |
| Port of Almeria in Search of Refrigerated Cargo Ship |
| The Euro Weekly News reported that the produce manufacturers in Almeria, Spain are in search of a maritime solution that will reduce their costs and make them more competitive. Local companies have been in talks for more than two years with la Autoridad Portuaria de Almerķa (The Port Authority) and the port is "working to find companies that could establish new routes between the Port of Almeria and Rotterdam, from where trucks depart for other European destinations, and cargo ships head towards Russia and the Baltic."
